
Catherine Byers
Catherine was born and raised in Aberystwyth, and later studied Law with German Law at the University of Birmingham and Bayreuth University in Bavaria.
Catherine qualified as a solicitor in 2004 and joined the Birmingham office of a commercial law firm. Whilst there, she specialised in corporate law, advising on share and business sales and purchases, joint ventures and general company law matters. She also undertook secondments to two large corporate clients.
Catherine subsequently joined the Stuttgart office of an international law firm, where she specialised in international corporate transactions. Whilst there, she also qualified as a German solicitor. She later moved to the firm’s Moscow office, where she focussed on international transactions in the oil and gas industry. During this time, she also took a sabbatical to attain a legal Master’s degree from the internationally renowned Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy at Dundee University.
After a number of years, Catherine returned to the UK to join the London office of a US law firm, in their energy law department.
Her ‘wanderlust’ satisfied, Catherine returned to Aberystwyth and joined Alun Thomas & John in 2021. She now advises on residential and commercial property transactions and private client matters, as well as continuing to advise on corporate matters.
Catherine speaks fluent German, and Welsh as a second language. She also has some Russian.
Catherine plays the violin and is a member of Aberystwyth’s Philomusica orchestra. She also sings with various choirs, having sung with the national youth choirs of Wales and Great Britain when younger. She is also an enthusiastic gardener and enjoys walking and attempting to play golf.
